EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer Rubber) is the mainstay material used for aqueous (water) high-purity processing. Newman Sanitary Gasket Company manufactures FDA and USP Class VI compliant rubber sanitary gaskets, O-rings and custom molded partsmade from a series of proprietary peroxide-cured EPDM compounds of various hardness ranges (50 to 90 Shore A). These components provide superior purity, properties, and performance. They are resistant to aqueous acids and bases, steam, oxygenated sanitizing solutions, and a host of other polar solvents. EPDM has an excellent temperature range from -55 °F (-48 °C) up to +325 °F (162 °C) and some grades are specialized for the Biopharmaceutical Industry. Newman 2107 EPDM (70 Durometer Black) has been the material of choice for FDA and USP applications for decades around the world.
Newman Sanitary Gasket Co. is a leading USP Class VI & Platinum-Cured Silicone Sanitary Gasket Manufacturer of both FDA grade and USP Silicone sanitary gaskets and O-rings around the world. Newman peroxide and platinum-cured silicone compounds are known for their relative purity, safety, optical clarity, ease of use, and low levels of extractable material. This makes Newman silicone seals the first choice in many high purity applications including in Single-use biopharmaceutical gaskets and assemblies. Silicone’s wide temperature range keeps it flexible from steaming to almost cryogenic temperatures. Its chemical resistance allows it to be used a wide variety of static and dynamic applications. Silicone, however, has only moderate toughness/durability and tends to absorb process materials more than other materials. Because of this, it is not as popular in Multi-use applications where equipment is repeatedly cleaned and steamed-in-place.
Two extremely chemical resistant Viton® compounds developed by DuPont Performance Elastomers to solve critical sealing problems.
Viton® "GF" is a high-fluorine, peroxide-cured Viton®. Exhibits excellent steam resistance and superior resistance to a much wider variety of cleaning fluids. Also exhibits excellent physical properties, including resistance to compression set.
Viton® "ETP" is a very unique copolymer that exhibits excellent steam resistance and resistance to attack by an exceptionally broad variety of chemicals and fluids, including aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, acids, bases, all types of alcohols and even low molecular weight key tones, esters, and aldehydes.
These two new compounds have been used to -65° F (-53 °C) in static seals - flexibility, 0° F (-17 °C) to 400° F (204 °C) under continuous duty and will take 600° F (315 °C) for short periods of time. Rated at -20° F (-28 °C) to 400° F(204 °C). Short terms to 600° F (315 °C).
Not all PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) is made alike. Teflon™, created by DuPont and now owned by the Chemours Company continues to be the highest standard in the industry. Used in everything from frying pans to dental floss, the toughness, high purity and non-stick nature of the Teflon™ brand is known for its excellent performance properties in almost all environmental conditions. Teflon finds broad application in the food, beverage, dairy, pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical industries, showing excellent resistance to heat, steam, strong acid and bases, and vegetable oils. Teflon™ is compliant with FDA and USP VI criteria as well as a host of other worldwide regulations and standards.
We are a manufacturer of FFKM sanitary gaskets and seals. When all else fails, Kalrez® Perfluoroelastomer is up to the challenge where you need the chemical resistance of TeflonTM and the rubber sealing character of an elastomer. Kalrez® is preferred in the natural flavoring industry where the widest number of complex natural molecules exist and where flavor or aroma cannot be imparted to the product. Kalrez® is also used in the harshest areas of bioprocessing and food processing where broad chemical resistance, steaming and vacuum processes are combined. Newman Nitrile (Buna-N or NBR) material is a food grade rubber that is used in a host of food, dairy, and beverage processes. It is the backbone of the food and edibles processing industries, has excellent compression set, tear and abrasion resistance. It also has good acid and milk alkali resistance and is appropriate for vegetable oil service. It is rated for service between -40° F/-40°C and 225° F/107°C.

HNBR products and manufacturing are under development and will be released soon. HNBR is made through selective hydrogenation of the NBR butadiene groups. This significantly strengthens its physical properties, widens its temperature range and improves its long term resistance to oxidizers as compared to standard Nitriles (NBR). It is often used in refrigerant systems, although it can be used in many food applications where it unique properties are required.
